The Winter Olympics
The winter Olympics is on the horizon, only five month away. Although I am more of a fan of the Summer Olympics, I try to catch a bit of the Olympics each time they aired. One highlight of the Olympics is seeing nations and cultures that we have been unfamiliar with. Sometimes I wonder why cities bid on hosting the Olympics. Many cities, I have read, lose money when they host. Recently I heard that Rio is still try to calculate how much money they lost by hosting the last Summer Olympics Games.
I am a bit nervous about the location of the next winter Olympics. It is scheduled for South Korea. It seems like a bitter irony that the games that celebrate world peace will be held next to a nation that is now threatening world peace with nuclear weapons. I can’t help but wonder if North Korea is acting so aggressively with these weapons because the games are on the horizon. Is this nation attempting to mount a threat so that nations of the world will pay a tribute to them to keep the games safe? Might this be a broader plot?
I do hope and pray that the nuclear issues with North Korea will be resolved soon. I don’t want to think about the potential of holding the Olympics so close to an irrational regime that possesses these weapons. Let us pray for world leaders who are working to contain the actions of North Korea.
